Welcome to this year’s Support LGBTQ Creatives series! All this week, I will be sharing blog posts featuring different LGBTQ artists in a range of disciplines. Check out all the LGBTQ Creatives worthy of support here! (Including creatives from 2019!)
Johvan Calvo is a gay Mexican-American who recently published his first book, Colors. This experimental post-apocalyptic novel revolves around mental health and places LGBT characters at the forefront, most of which are Hispanic-American. His creative goals are to share stories that focus on LGBT characters that are not defined by their queer identities. In fact, his novel never confronts identity politics, but incorporates the characters’ LGBTQ identities seamlessly within the story.
The author’s inspiration derives from those around him and their own stories. The blueprint of his book started years ago from a desk in high school, which has since been edited and reshaped into the novel on sale today. His future writing plans include a comedy book and fantasy-based stories. You can support Johvan by purchasing his book on Amazon (print and ebook) and leaving a nice review afterwards. Keep on eye out on AL&HL for an upcoming book review of Colors! Be sure to also follow Johvan on Twitter!
